Women sex trafficking
is indeed a global issue because it is another form of slavery. During slavery,
African Americans were dehumanized and stripped of their unalienable rights.
They were seen as inferior, unimportant, and just another piece of meat. In the
sex trafficking industry, women are like African Americans during the period of
slavery; Being traded for profit and for personal gain with no voice that
matters. Women, in this cruel industry, are being exposed to the horrendous
acts of constant violence, cruelty, isolation, rape, torture, and most
importantly, a lack of women’s freedom and rights. Women, like all individuals,
are humans too but they are being robbed of their dignity through the false pretenses
of a wonderful life, new beginnings, and bribery from deceivers that they know
and do not know. They are, in fact, modern slaves.
Though women sex
trafficking is illegal in many countries, it is still prevalent and growing. In
fact, it is seen as the fastest growing business and the third largest
criminal enterprise in the world today. Women, in the sex trafficking industry,
are seen as commodities, products that can be traded for profit. It is
estimated to have a very high profit rate, even though some areas make a
greater profit. This particular industry, owes its success to citizens who are
naïve about women sex trafficking being both a regional and domestic
matter.People are blind to the idea
that sex trafficking can occur in the United States because the idea of it
occurring just next door undermines citizen’s beliefs and values as the land of
freedom and opportunity. The denial of its existence harms the victims of the
sex trafficking industry, as well as the society; neither one is safe while the
industry still exists because there is no freedom.
