Proposed Solution
There is no doubt that Women’s sex trafficking is not only a global issue but also an issue here in the United States and even in Virginia. This issue needs attention and needs to be addressed before it escalates to even a bigger problem. Now you’re probably asking how should we address this issue? The answer is simple; it starts with every individual doing their part and by the government doing theirs. Now what do I specifically mean by the individual doing their part? What I mean by this is be conscientious consumer. Encourage companies to take steps to investigate and eliminate human trafficking in their supply chains and to publish the information for consumer awareness. Also what you can do as an individual is to meet with or write to your local, state, and federal government representatives to let them know that you care about combating human trafficking in your community. In addition, you can always volunteer to do victim outreach or offer your time to a local anti-trafficking organization. Another thing you can do is donate funds or needed items to an anti-trafficking organization in your area. As far as the government’s part, their involvement could be in a variety of different ways. For instance, one way is they could create stricter penalties for human trafficking which can then play a role in deterring traffickers from operating. At the same time, they can aid in developing human trafficking task force like the Polaris Project in Massachusetts, which strengthens protections for victims of trafficking and makes using the internet as a trafficking tool a punishable offense (TheMuse, 2015). |
